Mitchell & Ness was founded in Philadelphia in 1904 by Frank P. Mitchell, a wrestler and tennis champion, and Charles M. Ness, a Scottish golfer.
At first, the store specialized in tennis rackets and golf clubs, but later it began making uniforms for high school, college, and semi-professional teams, and in 1933 received an order to make the official uniforms of the Philadelphia Eagles (American football).
